Happy December bookish friends!
Over here at Book Box Club HQ we are starting to feel very Christmassy! Some beautiful bookish items have started to arrive ready to go into our Magic by Night boxes, my hallway is full of very exciting cardboard boxes at the moment and we really can’t wait to send this box out to you all. If you haven’t managed to bag yourself a December box yet and you like the sound of a story filled with fairytales, feminism and magic then head over to our website now and subscribe, or drop some serious christmas gift hints! This box will be sent out a few days early to try and avoid the Christmas post rush, but they will be on sale until the 14th December (or until we sell out).
One of the most exciting things about a Book Box Club box is the fact that we have our own little online community. The Book Box Club Clubhouse is our exclusive members-only online book group where we meet and chat with our lovely club members. Once a month, we’re also joined by the author of our featured book to discuss inspirations, future books, other recommended reads and lots more.
Our lovely subscriber, Maja, said about The Clubhouse, “It was marvelous, and you should, in fact, be green with envy!”
We have had two brilliant Clubhouse meetings so far; one in which we chatted to Peadar O’Guilin, author of The Call about Ireland, folklore and future writing projects. We were absolutely thrilled when Peadar gave us an exclusive sneak peak into the plot line of the next book in his series about the Sidhe. The follow-up to The Call sounds amazing.
Our second Clubhouse meeting featured The Hypnotist‘s author Laurence Anholt. We debated favourite characters, cat dramas (!) and reflected on real world issues. One of our favourite things to come out of this book group was Laurence’s wonderful words about the importance of novels. He told us: “I think fiction is so important because it is like a gym for our empathy muscles.” What an awesome analogy!
Any Book Box Club members who missed the meeting this month or those of you who just fancy going back for a recap, we have posted the minutes to our October meeting (with Laurence Anholt) right here, but you’ll need to be logged in to read them. There’s also a Hypnotist follow-up topic our Reading Room, where you’ll find all the links that Laurence mentioned during the book group and if you’d like to keep chatting about our October book, please post your comments there. I could have carried on talking about that book for days!
And whilst our Clubhouse meetings are not in session Book Box Club members are welcome to log into our Reading Room at any time: reply to posts, discuss their bookish opinions and start up their own topics to chat about with members. Kate and I have just posted a whole host of new topics (including Fantastic Beasts discussion and A Court of Wings and Ruin speculation!) as well as games and a writing tips board for budding authors. If you are a member already then do come in and join the fun. We’d love to hear your thoughs on Newt Scamander or take a peak at some of your incredible NaNoWriMo snippets!
If you are not yet a Book Box Club member and you like the sound of chatting with other bookish sorts (as well as receiving a box stuffed with bookish goodies) then subscribe to our December box now. We have already confirmed that the mystery author of our Magic by Night featured book will be attending our Clubhouse meeting in the New Year and is very excited to join us!
I’m off to buy my Christmas tree now so have a lovely Sunday everyone!
Love, Libby xx
