Happy Christmas eve bookish friends,
Book Box Club HQ always seems to be covered in wrapping paper but this time I’ll be wrapping Christmas presents instead of books! That’s right, I like to save all of my wrapping to the very last minute so that I feel as frantic as possible and I get in the way of my entire extended family as they try to make snowballs, prepare stuffing and blow up airbeds around me. My well organised (Virgo) business sister Kate sent her delicious homemade Christmas gingerbread gifts alongside a very thoughtful card over a week ago and yet here I am panic buying sellotape supplies on Christmas Eve. Some things never change.
Despite long standing Christmas traditions, many other massive things have changed for us in 2016, and we have you guys to thank for that. This time last year Kate and I met up and discussed LIFE over a cup of mulled wine and minced pies. Although Book Box Club wouldn’t be born until quite a few months time, the conversation went something like this:
Kate: I feel as though I’d like to do something huge, something life changing.
Libby: I know what you mean. We need to shake things up.
Kate: I feel as though I’d like to sail around the world, you know? Really achieve something big.
Libby: Let’s do it!
Needless to say, we didn’t end up sailing around the world (luckily)! We did, however, do something life changing. We embarked on a journey which would turn out to be just as rewarding, just as adrenaline fuelled but with fewer sharks and less seasickness. Many late night conversations later Book Box Club was born and we haven’t looked back since.
First and foremost we would like to thank our Book Box Club members. You put the Club in Book Box Club and without that where would we be? Probably on a freezing boat in the Atlantic…Whether you are a loyal Founding Member (with a pin to prove it) or you have just purchased your first box as a sneaky Christmas present to yourself, we love you all! Your ongoing support and inspiration really does mean the world to us and seeing you all delightedly unboxing your parcels each month has been one of our favourite parts of our adventure. If you fancy a recap on our first three boxes then check out all the lovely books and goodies we’ve included here. We are so happy that our little club is growing and we can’t wait for lots more Clubhouse meetings in the New Year!
We have also been lucky enough to work with some amazing crafts people this year. Browsing the internet for beautiful bookish items has gone from being a late night ‘I really should sleep/stop spending money’ hobby to an actual part of our job and so many great crafters have made it an absolute pleasure. Thank you for all your help guys! Do check out our Crafty Q&A Blog series to find out more about some of our favourite bookish creatives!
Right from when we set up our Book Box Club social media accounts and we started to get to know some of you online we knew this was going to be a lot of fun. We are so thankful for the online bookish community. Honestly, you are all so encouraging and friendly! It feels really special to be part of a group of people who share a love of books but also a way of thinking. Bookish people are the best and we’d like to say thank you to all of you who like our photos, share our updates and spark up bookish conversations.
In true Oscar speech style we would also like to thank our friends and family for helping is make 2016 great, especially our very supportive other halves for cooking dinners, doing ironing, making post office trips and sorting out malfunctioning technology! You have made starting our own business (probably) less terrifying than sailing around the world and infinitely more fun.
If you’d like to be part of our journey in 2017 we’d love to welcome you to Book Box Club. We have a really special box planned for January, which you can read all about here and sign up for right here! And beyond January we’ve got some truly special books, crafty goodies and Clubhouse meetings on the horizon, which we hope to share with lots of lovely bookish buddies (you guys)!
So, without further ado, Kate and I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. May you spend it with people you love eating plenty of mince pies and laughing at bad Christmas cracker jokes.
Lots and lots of love,
