Hello book loving friends!
This week’s over-excited blog post is our chance to rave about some of the utterly brilliant books that we’ve been reading recently, or that we’re dying to read soon.
On each of our desks there sits a mountain of ARCs, kindly gifted to us by our publisher buddies (thank you lovely publishers!). Each month we read as many books as we can possibly squeeze into our days, and on our hunt for the perfect books to feature in our Book Box Club boxes, we often find so many more that we’d also love to include. We feel very lucky to have the chance to see so many amazing books before they hit the shelves, in fact it is one of the most exciting things about running a book subscription box.
Today, we thought we’d share a very brief list of some of the books we are particularly excited about for February release and beyond! These titles are not yet published, but they will be very soon – with the exception of one for which you’ll wait for a little longer, but we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce it to you and to reveal its stunning cover for the very first time…
Read on to rapidly increase your TBR pile.
History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera
Published by Simon & Schuster (9th February)
This book broke me. Seriously. It is very seldom you read a love story that feels so real. The characters feel like people you already know, they are geeky and awkward and instantly likeable. The first chapter sees our protagonist Griffin at the tragic funeral of his ex-boyfriend Theo. The rest of the novel is told in a series of flashbacks travelling between snippets of how this couple first met, the heartwarming story of how their relationship started and the aftermath of Theo’s death and Griffin’s grief.
If is not an easy read; it really took its toll on my emotions, but the characters have played on my mind ever since. The whole thing felt so gut-wrenchingly raw and sincere. I read it all in one intense teary sitting and I loved it. History is all you left published in early February and I urge you to pick it up.
Faithful by Alice Hoffman
Published by Simon & Schuster (9th February)
Both of us really loved this book. We read it at the same time and ended up chatting about it in great detail as we finished each chapter and there are so many little moments that we’ve continued to talk about since.
Faithful is the story of Shelby, a young girl who is involved in a car accident with a friend. Whilst Shelby survives and is (at least physically) unscathed, Helene is left in a vegetative state. Shelby might have survived the accident, but she’s left feeling hopeless and empty until she begins receiving mysterious postcards giving concise anonymous advice: “do something”, “save something”, “believe something”… Gradually this broken girl picks herself up and puts herself back together again, and at the same time she etched herself onto my memory as a brilliantly irreverent, intensely human character.
If you’re intrigued, make sure you’re signed up to our newsletter and we’ll send you an exclusive e-sampler next week so can have a sneak peek inside this truly special book before it hits the shelves in bookshops.
The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles
Published by Bloomsbury (9th of February)
A thrilling, romantic novel and the first in a gripping new series. This is perfect winter reading. Zoe is a grieving teen battling a snow storm with her younger brother, when she witnesses something extraordinary and meets a bounty hunter on a mission. She nicknames the stranger “X” and it soon becomes clear that they’re fated to be soulmates, but X isn’t of this world and in staying with Zoe he puts them both in terrible danger.
I’ve got a just few pages left of this dystopian love story and I can’t wait to find out how it wraps up!
Unconventional by Maggie Harcourt
Published by Usborne (1st February)
This one is on our TBR pile and we’ve heard some fantastic things about it. This is a contemporary story about geekiness, fangirling, conventions, and falling in love. It sounds (and looks) absolutely awesome and as self-confessed fangirls (of Harry Potter, biscuits and Buffy) we can’t wait to read it. Subscribers to our January Immortal Stories box will find a little nod to this book inside their box!
And now it’s time to reveal the cover for a book perfect for fans of fables and kick ass heroines with a dark side!
We are delighted to exclusively reveal the UK cover for (drum roll please)…
The Beast is an Animal by Peternelle Van Arsdale
Published by Simon & Schuster (7th September)
Isn’t it a beauty? Eeeek! Thanks to Simon & Schuster for allowing us to lift the curtain on this stunning artwork and sorry to tease you all with this gorgeous book so far in advance of its publication, but we are so excited about this novel we just can’t wait to start talking about it.
Have you guys read any of these books too, or have you got anything that you think we should add to our reading pile? Please leave us a comment below or on our social media places because if there is one thing we love about this community over all others it’s sharing brilliant stories.
Don’t forget our February TROUBLEMAKERS box is on sale now and can be purchased right here.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
